Tetas to modernise Litgrid’s Jačionys transformer substation in Vilnius under a €2.45 million contract

Tetas will reconstruct the 110 kV switchyard at Litgrid’s 110/10 kV Jačionys transformer substation in Vilnius. The project will upgrade infrastructure that has been in operation for more than four decades, introduce modern control and automation systems, and improve the reliability of the electricity transmission network. The signed contract is worth €2.45 million, excluding VAT.

Located on Jočionių Street in Vilnius, the substation was commissioned in 1982. Most of its existing 110 kV equipment is worn and was manufactured to the standards applicable at the time. Repairs are becoming increasingly difficult due to a shortage of spare parts and are no longer economically viable.

The project will involve reconstructing the 110 kV switchyard and installing modern control, protection and substation automation systems. These upgrades will help reduce the substation’s operating costs and the duration of outages required for maintenance, while increasing the number of remotely controlled bays in the transmission network.

Under the contract, preparation of the detailed technical design is expected to take approximately six months. Reconstruction works will follow and are scheduled to take around 20 months.

All works will be carried out while the substation remains operational, ensuring an uninterrupted electricity supply to consumers.
