Dismantled but still functional equipment from the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant is being sent to Ukraine to aid in the reconstruction of the war-torn energy system. In June, exceptionally large equipment – two 110 kV power transformers – was sent from Visaginas to Ukraine.
One such transformer, filled with oil, weighs 109 tons. Its dimensions are: length – 8.8 m; width – 5.7 m; height – 5.5 m. To prepare each transformer for transport, the oil (about 30 tons) was safely drained, part of the equipment (about 9 tons) was disassembled, and then the transformer with a sealed casing was loaded onto a special truck platform.
Tetas, along with LITRAFA and Maersk Logistics & Services Denmark A/S, carried out the preparatory, loading, and transportation work. The preparatory work took about a month.
upport for Ukraine’s energy system is being collected and transported with the assistance of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine. The transportation services for the aid sent to Ukraine are funded by the European Union and the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania.
Currently, the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant is preparing documents for the transfer of additional necessary equipment, with the first to be sent being the highly needed 5.6 MW diesel generators for Ukraine.
