Lithuanian electrical transmission system operator Litgrid is starting the reconstruction of transformer substations in Šiauliai and Panevėžys districts. Upon completion of the 110 kV switchyard reconstruction works at the Dainiai substation in Šiauliai and the Berčiūnai substation in the Panevėžys district, the reliability and security of the electricity transmission network will be increased, and the substations will become more environmentally friendly. The construction works at both substations will be carried out by Tetas for 3.3 and 2.8 million euros.
The construction permits for the reconstruction of the Dainiai and Berčiūnai transformer substations were obtained in May of this year.
“In order to achieve the country’s energy independence, we are purposefully implementing not only synchronisation, but also strategic infrastructure projects – we are upgrading our transformer substations with modern, more efficient and environmentally friendly equipment. These planned reconstruction works will contribute to the overall stability and security of Lithuania’s electricity grid,” – says Rokas Masiulis, CEO of Litgrid.
According to Ramūnas Papinigis, CEO of Tetas, during the upgrade, all the original 110 kV equipment and structures will be replaced, new control and communication equipment will be installed, and the number of remotely controlled connection points will be increased.
During the project, solar power plants will be installed to cover a portion of the electricity needs for internal consumption. Consequently, substation operating costs will decrease, and the reliability of electricity supply will increase.
In addition, both substations will be equipped with environmentally friendly devices that do not use SF6 gas or oil and are made from eco-friendly materials.
The reconstruction of the Dainai and Berčiūnai substations is planned to be completed by 2026.
During the substation reconstruction work, electricity transmission to residents, organizations, and businesses in the region will remain reliable and stable.
