Tetas, a company of the EPSO-G group of companies implementing the physical barrier project at the border with Belarus, has started construction work on the first phase of the project. Marking of the Druskininkai, A. Barauskas and Adutiškis border crossing points has started and construction equipment has been brought in. Tetas has also started work on the construction of a concertina at the Druskininkai border crossing.
Once the concertina has been completed, fence segments will be built at key border crossings. It is planned that the first segments manufactured in accordance with the requirements of the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior (SBGS) will be delivered to the border in October and construction will start in November and December, with the fastest pace of construction.
According to the terms of reference submitted by the SSSS, Tetas has undertaken to build the entire 100-kilometre-long physical barrier on the border by the end of April next year. The project’s technological plan foresees the formation of a concertina barrier made up of several spiral sections along the border, right next to the state border. Later, on the Lithuanian side, fence segments will be built with a concertina spiral at the top. The total height of the fence with the concertina spiral will be approximately 4 metres.
In preparation for the second phase of the construction of the physical barrier, which will cover a distance of around 400 kilometres, EPSO-G is planning to launch a call for tenders this week. It will involve signing contracts with several companies that can carry out the work by September next year.
The Project Supervisory Commission is chaired by the Prime Minister and includes the Ministers of the Interior, Energy, National Defence, Environment and Finance, the Head of the State Security Service, the Head of the State Territorial Planning and Construction Inspectorate under the Ministry of the Environment, and a representative of the EPSO-G group of companies implementing the project.
