Commissioned by Litgrid, Tetas has successfully completed the works to connect the Žeimiai traction transformer substation to Lithuania’s electricity transmission network. The project is an important part of the Vilnius–Klaipėda railway electrification project of national importance, being developed by LTG Infra.
Tetas specialists constructed a 110 kV switchgear, a double-circuit 110 kV overhead transmission line Žeimiai–Žeimiai Traction, as well as a 110 kV overhead line Žeimiai Traction–Kėdainiai. The total length of the newly installed electricity transmission lines is approximately 1.5 km.
The 110/27.5 kV Žeimiai traction transformer substation is already the second of six traction substations connected to the transmission network operated by Litgrid. It will ensure a reliable electricity supply for electric trains along the country’s main railway corridor. The switchgear was constructed under a contract with LTG Infra.
Once the Vilnius–Klaipėda railway electrification project is completed, a 363 km-long overhead contact line system will be installed. The project covers not only the construction of the contact network, but also the construction of six traction substations in Lentvaris, Žeimiai, Linkaičiai, Tarvainiai, Kretinga and Žasliai, their connection to the Litgrid electricity transmission network and testing, as well as the installation of eight autotransformers to ensure voltage stability in the contact network. The Lentvaris traction substation was the first to be connected to the transmission network, followed by the Žeimiai substation.
The Vilnius–Klaipėda railway line is the busiest railway section in Lithuania, making its electrification critically important for the development of the country’s infrastructure. Last year, this corridor accounted for approximately 40% of all rail freight and 16% of passenger traffic in Lithuania.
